Utah Alpha Phi
Alpha Phi at the University of Utah is deeply committed to philanthropy, with a special focus on supporting women’s heart health through the Alpha Phi Foundation. The Alpha Phi Foundation is the proud philanthropic partner of Alpha Phi International Fraternity, with a mission of “advancing women’s lives through the power of philanthropy.” Alpha Phi officially adopted women’s heart health as a priority in 1946, which became the Foundation’s philanthropic focus upon its founding in 1956. Heart disease remains the number one killer of women, claiming more lives than all forms of cancer combined, which is why this cause is so meaningful to our chapter.
Our largest and most impactful event is the Red Dress Gala, held each fall, where students, parents, alumni, and community members come together for an evening dedicated to raising significant funds and awareness for women’s heart health. In February, during Heart Health Month, we participate in campus-wide efforts at the University of Utah to promote cardiovascular awareness. A highlight of this time is our Heart Health Week, where we host a series of events focused on education, outreach, and engagement to inform our community about prevention and wellness.
In addition to these larger initiatives, we host events like Mac and Phis, where we serve macaroni and cheese to students as a fun and approachable way to raise funds, and Alpha Phifa, a campus-wide soccer tournament that brings together students and organizations for friendly competition in support of our cause. Our Heart Throb Pageant is a favorite tradition, where participants take the stage in a lighthearted and entertaining competition to raise money and awareness for women’s heart health.
Alpha Phis are committed to making a tangible impact through our philanthropy, especially through initiatives like the Heart to Heart Grant, a $100,000 contribution given by the Alpha Phi Foundation to organizations leading innovative research in women’s heart health. Each of these efforts reflects our dedication to service, bringing together sisterhood and purpose to support a cause that is truly at the heart of who we are.
